I read an amazing tip years ago when Lisa Whelchel's Creative Correction first came out. Some of her techniques didn't work for us, but this one did: she recommended using beads in a jar to motivate kids to be polite, obey, and serve each other. We've used this "Blessing Bead jar" in our own family with great results. How does it work? I try to catch my sons being good--saying "Yes Ma'am" or "Yes, Sir," sharing nicely, or doing their chores with a good attitude. Then I tell them to put one or more beads in a large container. When they fill up the jar, they get a substantial reward, such as going to a favorite pizza/games place or buying a longed-for toy. My favorite thing about the "Blessing Bead jar" is that I can reward good behavior, instead of just disicplining the boys when they misbehave.
Works for me!
What are YOUR creative discipline techniques? I'd love to hear them!
