This Groovy Chick ROCKS!
Anita Renfroe--fellow Texan, Women of Faith presenter, and totally groovy chick--better known as the "You Tube" phe-mom-enon who sings everything a mom says in 24 hours to the "William Tell Overture," recently had a wonderful profile in the NY Times.
Cool tidbit about Anita: she came and did comedy in January at a conference in Kerrville where I led worship, and I invited her to a performance at Rockbox Theater that Sunday. She took me up on it and visited the Sunday matinee with her family (she's from the Texas Hill Country!). We were so thrilled to have them in the audience, and even more thrilled when they loved the show and "got" what we were doing.
We knew her a little bit: she had met my hubby a couple of years ago at a Christian Comedy Conference, and I had met her a few times at writing events. (I'm so honored that she gave us a story for the first GC book!) Anita's the real deal, as is her cutie-pie hubby. They're warm, funny (of course!), and authentic.
Even with her incredibly busy schedule (she just shot her new video, which includes a hilarious parody of Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" called "Before I Eat"--which she gave us a sneak peek of at the conference), she called my DH later and gave him excellent feedback and some great ideas for taking the show to the next level.
I am so happy about her success--she's going to be a regular on Good Morning America this year!--and it just goes to show you that you don't have to be raunchy to be successful in comedy. She has been faithful to her hubby, her kids, and her calling...and now it's her time to shine. And shine she does!
You go, girl!!!
